| Australasia Reign supreme but England will have their day. |

“The best Polo we have seen all season” was Commentator Peter West’s assessment of a thrilling 5 chukka match, played on the ever improving no 2 ground at the Beaufort Polo club - and very few would argue with that.
The game was played at breakneck speed with displays of incredible stick work and horsemanship that sent the 4,000 strong crowd wild. When Robbie Archibald went solo from the first throw in with the bouncing ball and finished with a beautifully angled shot to goal, that set the tone for the game , “I don’t think I played that well today ” said a modest Robbie after the game. The game was cat and mouse all the way through, the teams trading goals throughout. The big man, Glen Gilmore had an absolute Stormer while Ruki Baillieu looked typically solid, determined and unflappable and Australasia no 4 JP Clarkin was instrumental in setting the tempo and finding the runners with some slick passing. “They were a tough team” said England no 2 Mark Tomlinson after the match, “but we played well in defeat and can look forward to Cartier after the Gold Cup is over!” Mark played a characteristically passionate game, his heart on his sleeve at all times and working hard for every play. Beim’s ball control and running up front was exceptional, and with The Solid combination of Luke Tomlinson and Malcolm Borwick at the back, this is an England team on the ascendancy and it would be a brave man to bet against them gaining back to back wins at Cartier and Cowdray.
